Emergency Medicine Section Chief
Emergency Medicine Section Chief
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Department of Pediatrics is seeking a chief for its section of pediatric emergency medicine. Potential applicants should hold an M.D. degree and board certification in pediatric emergency medicine. Candidates should qualify for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level. The successful candidate is expected to assume administrative responsibilities and provide leadership by promoting faculty development, teach students and residents and supporting the department's four-fold mission - to teach, to heal, to search, and to serve.
The Section of Pediatric Emergency Medicine has an annual emergency department census of approximately 52,000 visits. The emergency department (ED) is the only dedicated pediatric emergency department in the state. A new 29,500 square foot pediatric emergency department is currently under construction. The ED serves as online medical control for pediatric EMS runs and works with the PICU on an active helicopter pediatric transport program. Current research interests in the group include injury prevention, pediatric pre-hospital care, care of bronchiolitis and asthma in the ED, and pediatric disaster preparedness. There are currently 22 faculty in the section.
The UAMS Department of Pediatrics is the largest department in the UAMS College of Medicine with over 230 faculty members and more than 100 residents and fellows. Arkansas Children’s Hospital is among the ten largest children’s hospitals in the United States and was ranked among the nation’s best places to work by FORTUNE for the past three years.
