Arkansas Children's Hospital

Arkansas Children's HospitalArkansas Children's Hospital is the only pediatric medical center in Arkansas and one of the largest in the United States serving kids from birth to age 21. The UAMS Department of Pediatrics offers a wide range of pediatric medicine programs at Arkansas Children's Hospital (ACH) caring for more than 10,000 inpatient admissions and over 1,200 newborns each year.

There is an air medical critical care transport service at ACH staffed by faculty in the Department of Pediatrics.  The service transports over 1,200 patients a year.  Physicians from the Department man outpatient clinics operated by ACH on the main campus and in West Little Rock.  Additionally, the Department operates clinics located in the Dennis Developmental Center in Little Rock, the Schmieding Developmental Center in Springdale, and regional outreach clinics in seven subspecialties in more than 35 locations around Arkansas.  In sum, outpatient visits total over 170,000 per year.

The Department of Pediatrics works closely with Arkansas Children's Hospital in providing clinical staff and medical direction to several cross-disciplinary specialty services including Transplant Services and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Service (ECMO).  Other specialized programs include the Asthma Care Center, state-of-the art clinical care, education, and research; Sports Medicine PLUS, specialized care for young athletes; and Kids Care, a general pediatrics telephone triage service available to physicians in private practice around the state.

The Arkansas Children's Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI) is a not-for-profit corporation owned by Arkansas Children's Hospital (ACH). ACH is a full service, state-of-the-art facility, offering a complete array of clinical services ranging from well-baby, child, and adolescent care to the medical management of critically ill children requiring such sophisticated procedures as heart or kidney transplantation and Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). It is the teaching hospital of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), the only medical school in Arkansas. ACH is dedicated to the clinical care of children regardless of their ability to pay, medical and community education, and research. Essentially all of the physicians on the ACH campus are UAMS faculty. Research is a major component of the missions of UAMS and ACH. ACHRI was created to provide a research environment on the ACH campus to meet the research needs of UAMS faculty.
